The Gràcia Festa Major: A summer classic

The neighbourhood’s summer festival is back again with decorated streets and activities for people of all ages.

In a couple of days Barcelona’s most iconic summer festival will begin. From 15 August, the Festa Major in Gràcia will see the neighbourhood’s streets garlanded while its squares will resound to music of all types. There will also be activities for the whole family, fairs, dances and folklore parades in a week full of frantic celebrations.

This year there will be more decorated streets than ever, thanks to the incorporation of Carrer de la Fraternitat de Dalt in the official programme after two years’ absence, along with Plaça del Poble Romaní, which is debuting in the festival with an original design. These two incorporations brings the total number of participating streets and squares up to twenty and also makes for a fascinating route on which to explore the neighbourhood.

The festival will have a prologue on Sunday 14 with the traditional opening speech in Plaça de la Vila by the popular presenter Imma Sust. The festival itself will begin on Monday 15 at 8am. Among the concert highlights this year are the Alma Afrobeat Ensemble (15 August, Carrer de Ciudad Real), A Contra Blues (Carrer de Joan Blanques, 17 August), the cycles in Plaça del Folk and the Festigàbal.

Information about the event:

From 15/08/2016 to 21/08/2016
Where: Streets of the Gracia neighborhood
Metro: Fontana L3
